When Travis Brock, a high-level Pentagon redactor with an eidetic memory, finds a clue to solving the tragic arson that took his wife from him, he risks everything to find the truth—and chances losing himself in the process. With a terror attack looming on the horizon and a pair of assassins on his tail, Brock drops off the grid and joins forces with a disavowed Homeland Security operative. Together they race to stop the attack before Brock is neutralized by the people he trusts the most.
Broker of Lies introduces us to the Travis Brock a man whom possesses the gift of remembering everything he reads who works for the Pentagon as a Redactor. I enjoyed Steven’s newest series. I was fascinated with the idea of a Pentagon Redactor as a main character who also can remember anything. Broker of Lies shows why Steven James is considered by many, not just in Christian Thrillers but in secular circles as one of the masters of story telling.
Steven masterfully takes us on several tracks throughout the beginning of Broker of Lies and by the end he has them all converging to a satisfying conclusion. It is obvious Brock is a Christian or at least was in the past. He recites a couple of Bible versus so it’s not overwhelmingly preachy. To be honest it feels more authentic that way. I’m very active in a Bible teaching church and most people I know in those circles talk more like Brock than not. This is a positive for the Christian Thriller genre.
The one thing that may be a concern for some readers is Brock’s interaction with the female character Adira. Brock and Adira work together and as the story goes along they get closer and begin to be flirtatious and suggestive. Nothing happens, but it may rub some the wrong way. I personally don’t have an issue with it because nothing comes out of it. And, again, it’s closer to the real world, while also honoring God.
This is definitely a Buy The Hardcover At 12:01 and expect to lose sleep to be the first one to buy it.
