Highlighted Review: Fields of Fire: A Matthew Redd Thriller by Ryan Steck

Book Description:

Waiting to be deployed on a critical mission, elite Marine Raider Matthew Redd stops to help a stranger and wakes up hours later to learn his team was wiped out in an ambush. Unable to remember anything, Redd can’t deny the possibility that he’s somehow responsible for the information leak that led to the massacre. He’s given a deal to avoid a charge of treason, but it means walking away from the Corps and the life he loved.

As he faces his loss, Matty gets a cryptic message from his adoptive father, J. B.: “Trouble’s come knocking. . . . Might need your help.” He points his truck home to rural Montana, only to discover that J. B. is dead and the explanation for his death is far from satisfying. Determined to dig up the truth, Redd uncovers a dark global conspiracy with his hometown at the center and no team at his back—except one he might find among past friends, old enemies, and new allies, if he can figure out who to trust.

CIA Review:

Content Warning: While Fields of Fire was published by a Christian publisher there are a couple slight content items I feel need to be expressed. There are a couple times the author used words that some consider to be curse words. In my opinion it more realistic with how some men talk. Second warning is a scene that could be described as subjective. Again, this doesn’t detract from the story and I wouldn’t have a problem with my sixteen year old child reading this book.

Fields of Fire by Ryan Steck aka The Real Book Spy is a non stop action packed thriller in the vein of Jack Carr’s Reece series. One of the things I noticed in Fields of Fire is the lack of Christian characters or themes. There are a couple of references to a family bible and Matthew Redd’s dad coming to follow Jesus.

Despite that fact there was a lack of Christian themes or charcters in Fields of FIre, the author as stated as much but implied the following books in the series digs deeper into Redds faith. I will be sure to read and review the next Matthew Redd series. But you’re here to find out about what I thought about this book.

Fields of Fire is action packed like I stated above. It is written as you would expect from The Real Book Spy. I looked forward to reading the next page and the next. The relationships between the characters seemed authentic and tension between Redd and a former girlfriend could be felt through the pages adding to Fields of Fire being one of the best books I’ve read so far since starting CIA Reviews. I give the Fields of Fire a rating of Buy The Hardcover At 12:01
